Happy Robert is one of AFRIYEA Golf Academy's most dedicated coaches, embodying the values of patience, perseverance, and passion that define the academy's approach to junior golf development. His journey from a budding golfer to a certified coach is an inspiration to the young players he mentors.
Growing up in Fort Portal, Robert discovered golf at Toro Golf Club, where he caddied for club members and learned the game by observation and practice. His natural talent and love for the sport earned him a place in the club's junior development program, where he honed his skills under the guidance of senior coaches.
After completing his coaching certification through the Uganda Golf Union and The R&A's development programs, Robert joined AFRIYEA Golf Academy as a full-time coach. He specializes in teaching beginner and intermediate juniors, focusing on building strong fundamentals in grip, stance, and swing mechanics while ensuring that learning remains fun and engaging.
"I believe every child has the potential to excel at golf if given the right guidance and encouragement," says Robert. "My goal is not just to produce good golfers but to help young people develop character, discipline, and a love for the game that will stay with them for life."
Robert's coaching philosophy is built on three pillars: technical excellence, mental toughness, and character development. He incorporates life skills training into every session, teaching students about honesty, respect, and sportsmanship alongside the technical aspects of the game.
Many of Robert's students have gone on to compete in national junior tournaments, with several achieving top finishes. His dedication to his students extends beyond the practice range; he regularly visits their schools, speaks with their parents, and provides mentorship that goes far beyond golf.
When asked what drives him, Robert smiles: "Seeing a child hit their first perfect shot — that moment when everything clicks and their face lights up — that is why I coach. Every child deserves to experience that joy."
