A high-level delegation from the European Tour Group has advanced to Fort Portal as part of an eight-day fact-finding mission aimed at assessing Uganda's golf courses and the tourism potential surrounding them. The visit, organized in partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Airlines, and Uganda Golf Union, is aligned with Uganda's broader national agenda to promote sports tourism and position the country as a host for prestigious international golf events.
The delegation, comprising senior officials from the European Tour Group and golf tourism specialists, will visit several golf facilities across the country, with a particular focus on the Toro Club and AFRIYEA Golf Academy in Fort Portal. Their assessment will cover course quality, infrastructure, accommodation options, and the overall visitor experience.
"This visit represents a significant opportunity for Uganda to showcase its golf tourism potential on the global stage," said a spokesperson from the Uganda Tourism Board. "The European Tour Group's interest in Uganda reflects the growing recognition of our country as a premier golf destination."
AFRIYEA Golf Academy played a key role in facilitating the delegation's visit to Fort Portal. Academy founder Isaiah Mwesige led a tour of the academy's facilities and presented the organization's vision for developing golf tourism in the Tooro region.
"We are honored to host the European Tour Group and demonstrate what Fort Portal has to offer," said Mwesige. "Our academy is not just about training young golfers; it is about creating a golf ecosystem that benefits the entire community through tourism, job creation, and economic development."
The delegation's itinerary includes visits to Toro Golf Club, game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park, a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, and cultural experiences in the Tooro Kingdom. This comprehensive approach reflects the delegation's interest in the full tourism package that Uganda offers.
The outcome of this fact-finding mission could pave the way for Uganda to host European Tour events in the future, which would be a game-changer for the country's sports tourism industry. It would also provide a significant boost to AFRIYEA Golf Academy's efforts to put Fort Portal on the global golf map.
