The 2024 AFRIYEA Parent-Child Golf Championship brought families together for a memorable day of golf at Toro Golf Club, with Aloysius Bingi and Shalom Kayonga emerging as the champions in their respective categories. The annual tournament, now in its third edition, celebrates the unique bond between parents and children through the game of golf.
The championship featured a unique format where parent-child pairs competed together as a team, combining their scores on each hole. The format was designed to be inclusive, allowing families of all skill levels to participate and enjoy a round of golf together.
"The Parent-Child Championship is one of our favorite events of the year," said Isaiah Mwesige. "There is something special about seeing a father and daughter or mother and son walking the fairways together, sharing advice, encouragement, and laughter. These are memories that will last a lifetime."
Aloysius Bingi, playing with his son, delivered a masterful performance, combining experience with youthful energy to post the best combined score in the father-son category. Shalom Kayonga and his mother showed remarkable teamwork and composure to claim the top prize in their division.
The tournament was followed by a family barbecue and prize-giving ceremony, where all participants received certificates and commemorative gifts. The event also served as a fundraiser for the academy's junior development programs, with proceeds from entry fees and donations going towards equipment and scholarships.
Plans for the 2025 Parent-Child Championship are already underway, with organizers hoping to attract even more families and expand the event to include additional categories for extended family members.
