Kipipiri Golf Resort. In a tournament that reverberated beyond the fairways of this Rift Valley gem, Uganda secured a 13.5 to 10.5 victory, ending Kenya’s storied dominance in the biennial match-play event and signaling the rise of a new force in African golf.

The air buzzed with anticipation, a palpable energy weaving through the streets and outskirts of Fort Portal. It didn’t feel like an ordinary day and it wasn’t. The occasion was the Save River Mpanga Marathon 2025, a celebration of endurance, community, and an impassioned plea to safeguard one of Western Uganda’s vital lifelines.

On March 16, 2025, Fort Portal will come alive with the Save River Mpanga Marathon, an event dedicated to raising awareness about water conservation and climate action. Under the theme “Water and Environment for Climate Action,” the marathon is part of the broader Albertine Water Week activities, by the Ministry of Water and Environment through its Albertine Water Management Zone who are our partners as Afriyea GOLF academy together with many development partner organizations in the region such as Join for Water, water for people, IRC, Common Ground, Wilt Hunger, Tooro Kingdom, among many others.

Fort Portal City came alive with a sense of purpose as hundreds of volunteers gathered for the monthly cleanup of River Mpanga and its surrounding areas. With brooms, shovels, and a shared commitment to environmental conservation, participants from different organizations worked side by side to clear waste, restore wetlands, and raise awareness about the importance of protecting natural resources.
